GUEST POST: If Ezra Were Alive Today

If Ezra Were Alive Today
(a guest post by Mr. Cohen)

Ezra was one of the greatest leaders in Jewish History,
and the proof is that an entire book of the Jewish Bible
was named after him – a claim very few people can make.

The Biblical Book of Ezra reveals details about Ezra’s religious teachings:

Ezra, chapter 1, verse 3, reveals that Ezra wanted
to rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem.

Ezra, chapter 9, verse 3, reveals that Ezra was completely
opposed to intermarriage between Jews and non-Jews;
this verse states that when Ezra discovered that Jews
were intermarrying with Gentiles, he felt so aggravated
that he tore his clothes, and also tore his own hair out from
his head, and also ripped the hairs out from his own beard.

In verse 12, Ezra commanded all Jews to NOT intermarry with non-Jews.

In verse 14, Ezra mentioned that intermarriage would make GYD angry at the Jews.

In verse 15, Ezra mentioned that intermarriage is inexcusable.

Ezra, chapter 10, verse 3, reveals that under Ezra’s guidance,
ALL the non-Jewish wives of Jewish men, and the children
born to them, were permanently sent away.

Since all the children of non-Jewish women were permanently
sent away, even though they all had Jewish fathers, Ezra taught us,
through his actions, that people born to non-Jewish mothers
are NOT Jewish, even if they have Jewish fathers.

The last two words of Ezra, chapter 10, verse 3 are:
VeCaTorah Yeaseh”, which means that Ezra’s policy of
Jewishness by matrilineal descent was “according to the Torah”.

The two words which precede “VeCaTorah Yeaseh” are
BeMitzvat Elokainu”, which means that Ezra’s policy of
Jewishness by matrilineal descent was
“according to the command of our GYD”.

Ezra’s policy of Jewishness by matrilineal descent was
never contradicted by any Jewish prophet, even though
Jewish prophets were still active in Ezra’s time.

Ezra’s policy of Jewishness by matrilineal descent was
never contradicted by any Rabbi of: the Mishnah,
the Jerusalem Talmud, the Babylonian Talmud,
Rashi, Tosefos, Zohar, Midrash, Rambam, Ramban,
or Code of Jewish Law [Shulchan Aruch].

Ezra, chapter 7, verse 6, describes Ezra as:
an expert scholar of the Torah of Moses.
This description is never contradicted by any prophet,
nor is it ever disputed by any Rabbis of:
the Mishnah, Talmud or Midrash.

In our times, Orthodox Jews are the ONLY Jews who
want to rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem, like Ezra;
and completely oppose intermarriage with non-Jews,
like Ezra; and also define Jewishness exclusively by
matrilineal descent, like Ezra.

Therefore, if Ezra were alive today, he would
probably be categorized as Orthodox!

UN's UNRWA Threatens War on Israel

UNRWA official: 'Right of return' will be achieved by force

The Hamas-affiliated newspaper Felesteen reported that the head of the UNRWA workers' union in Gaza, Amir al-Mishal, said in his speech to the demonstrators that "the people who gathered here came to express their right to return."
He added and that “rights are not received with supplication but must be extracted by force."
While most Israelis are getting ready for the Passover, Pesach Holiday, our sworn enemies and their supporters are trying to destroy us.

The United Nations was set up after World War Two to facilitate world peace, but it has failed completely. It is extremely anti-Israel and supports our enemies.

Instead of treating the Arabs who willingly fled the nascent State of Israel in 1948 as any other "refugee" group and helping them adjust to their new homes, UNRWA has perpetuated the myth of the "right of return" for those Arabs. And although the United Nations General Assembly, November 29, 1947, voted to approve and recognize the State of Israel, its UNRWA has sabotaged that resolution ever since.

The Jewish People have had numerous enemies in the thousands of years of our existence. They are history, and we, bli eyin haraa, are thriving back in our Historic Homeland. And Gd willing, soon the United Nations and all of their anti-Israel NGOs will soon be postscripts in History Books, too.

The Mitzvah, Commandment to tell our story during the Passover Seder is to make it relevant to all times including today. Yes, we still have enemies, and we will defeat them, because the only ally we need is Gd Almighty.

Plugat HaKotel Museum Open to The Public, Memories

I was excited to see that the ground floor area of our first home in Israel has finally been opened to the public as the Beit Plugat Hakotel, Platoon of the Wall House. This small history museum is a gem.

We had been honored with a preview of the museum just under a year ago as part of my husband's 70th birthday/retirement party by the Menachem Begin Heritage Center.

The Menachem Begin Heritage Center chose the location and were able to get us in, because my husband's very first job as an Israeli, after we made aliyah in 1970, was there in that very same building. The rest of the building* had been renovated by World Betar to be used as a "student hostel." We were given an apartment in it to live in, and he was the "administrator," or אב בית. It took almost fifty years for the museum to be established/open.

The Plugat Hakotel Museum is in the building, because that is where the patrols were quartered in the dangerous time of the British Mandate. The British had been mandated to facilitate the establishment of a Jewish State, but they favored the Arabs. That is why there was a serious need for Jewish self-defense, and the Plugat Hakotel, Platoon of the Western Wall was so necessary. Besides providing Jewish security, brave, proud Jews who defied the British by blowing shofar at the Kotel came from that group.

Living in Maon Betar, we didn't have the usual olim chadashim, new immigrant experiences in Israel. Most of our friends spent their first months in a merkaz klita, immigrant hostel where they met other new immigrants and got lots of tips on how to use the system for their benefit. That's why we ended up buying an apartment on the private market in Bayit Vegan, rather then getting a better financial deal in Ramat Eshkol or Sanhedria Murchevet. We never really lived with other new immigrants. The guys in Maon Betar had mostly finished their army service and were starting their university studies. They were regular Israelis from all over the world. The connection was a Betar background.

Here I am in the early days of living in Maon Betar. This central internal patio was then open. A short while later, they roofed it, which kept out the rain and sun.
There were very few Jews living in the Old City at the time. We were certainly the only olim chadashim couple from America, though Rabbi Goldstein had already established the Diaspora Yeshiva on nearby Mount Zion.

During that special year when we were living in Maon Betar, we did feel ourselves as participating in Jewish History. Though nothing we did, not even my husband's attempts to ascend the Temple Mount, was on the level of those brave Jews who risked their lives defending Jews from Arabs while simultaneously challenging and defying the British. You'll find out more if you go to the Plugat Hakotel Museum.

*The rest of the building now serves as a dormitory for the Netiv Arye Yeshiva.

GUEST POST: If Jeremiah Were Alive Today

If Jeremiah Were Alive Today
(a guest post by Mr. Cohen)

Jeremiah was one of the greatest prophets in Jewish History,
and the proof is that an entire book of the Jewish Bible
was named after him – a claim very few people can make.

The Biblical Book of Jeremiah reveals details
about Jeremiah’s religious teachings:

Jeremiah, chapter 17, verse 4, teaches the importance of
the year-of-release, which is called the Sabbatical Year
in English, and the shmittah year in Hebrew.
This means that Jewish farmers who live in the land of
Israel must allow their farm-lands to rest every 7th year.
NOTE: Rashi’s commentary on this verse makes this clearer.

Jeremiah, chapter 17, verses 19 to 27, teaches the importance
of observing Shabbat, including the prohibition against
carrying burdens on Shabbat (verses 21, 22, 24, 27).
NOTE: Exceptions to this law are beyond the scope of this short essay.

Jeremiah taught that if Jews would observe Shabbat,
then Jerusalem would be theirs forever (verses 24 to 26);
but if not, then Jerusalem will be taken away from them
(verse 27). Maybe the real reason why many people and
many governments want to take Jerusalem away from the
Jews is because very many Jews today do not observe Shabbat.

In our times, we have a special name for Jews who want
the Sabbatical Year to be observed, like Jeremiah taught;
and also loyally observe the prohibition against carrying
burdens on Shabbat, like Jeremiah taught; they are called:
Orthodox Jews.

The organization that actively promotes observance of the
Sabbatical Year is staffed and funded exclusively by Orthodox Jews.

The overwhelming majority of non-Orthodox Jews abandoned
Shabbat-observance more than 100 years ago.  99.9% of Jews
alive today who observe Shabbat are Orthodox, even though
Orthodox Jews are less than 20% of the world’s Jewish population.

Therefore, if Jeremiah were alive today, he would probably
be categorized as an Orthodox Jew!
